چکیده

The (secondary) electron emission from multilayered Al$_2$O$_3$/TiN membranes has been investigated with a hemispherical collector system in scanning microscope for electrons energies between 0.3 and 10 keV. These ultra-thin are designed to function as transmission dynodes novel vacuum multipliers. Two different types, bi-layer tri-layer, have manufactured by means of atomic-layer deposition (ALD) aluminum oxide sputtering titanium nitride. reflection yield ($\sigma_R$, $\sigma_T$) measured both types membranes. In comparison, the tri-layer outperformed terms films same effective thickness. highest was on an Al$_2$O$_3$/TiN/Al$_2$O$_3$ film layer thicknesses 5/2.5/5 nm, which had maximum $\sigma_\text{T}^\text{max}(E_0)$ 3.1 (1.55 keV). Furthermore, more in-depth performing additional measurement using positive sample bias separate transmitted fraction $\eta_T$ secondary $\delta_T$. used determine parameter $p$, characterizes interaction primary (PEs) thin films. compare energy transfer PEs thicknesses.

Secondary Electron Emission Materials for Transmission Dynodes in Novel Photomultipliers: A Review

Secondary electron emission materials are reviewed with the aim of providing guidelines for the future development of novel transmission dynodes. Materials with reflection secondary electron yield higher than three and transmission secondary electron yield higher than one are tabulated for easy reference. Generations of transmission dynodes are listed in the order of the invention time with a s...

Secondary-electron emission from hydrogen- terminated diamond

Diamond amplifiers demonstrably are an electron source with the potential to support high-brightness, highaverage-current emission into a vacuum. We recently developed a reliable hydrogenation procedure for the diamond amplifier. The systematic study of hydrogenation resulted in the reproducible fabrication of high gain diamond amplifier. Furthermore, we measured the emission probability of dia...

Secondary electron emission studies

Secondary-electron-emission processes under electron bombardment play an important role in the performance of a variety of electron devices. While in some devices, the anode and the grid require materials that suppress the secondary-electron-generation process, the crossed-field amplifier (CFA) is an example where the cathode requires an efficient secondaryelectron-emission material. Secondary-...

Statistics of Transmission Secondary Emission

The statistical distribution of the number of emitted secondary electrons per primary incident on transmission alkali-halide dynodes has been studied. For high primary energies (1 MeV), a model based on the theory of dielectric energy loss and the secondary electron-phonon interaction is proposed to account for statistical distributions. Measurements of distributions from 500 i-thick films of C...

Calculation of Secondary Electron Emission Yield From MgO Surface

Secondary electron emission yield values for rare-gas particles (He, Ne, Ar, Kr, and Xe ions of atoms and molecules, metastable atoms, and excimers) of MgO deposited under optimum conditions for the highest values were calculated assuming the Auger transitions between the valence band, and the (oxygen ion vacancy + two electrons) and + (oxygen ion vacancy + one electron) centers in the MgO surf...
